Washing and drying your socks can be a real pain. Let’s face it, not many of us are blessed with perfect armpit hair, and even fewer of us have ever had good experiences with washing our socks (and we’ve all been there). The good news is that there are multiple ways to make washing and drying your socks easy, fun, and effective. So before we begin, make sure that your socks are fairly clean, as the process of washing them will only make them look shinier and more luxurious.

The Right Approach

As we’ve established, not many of us are lucky enough to have perfect armpit hair. So before we begin, let’s be clear about the fact that there is no perfect way to wash your socks. Everyone has their own opinion about how to make washing and drying easier, faster, and more convenient, and that’s totally fine! You don’t need to agree with anyone but yourself, because ultimately, you’re in full control of how you look on the outside because of how you feel on the inside. Now, you might be wondering how to effectively get those sweaty stains out of your socks after you’ve washed them. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered on that one as well. Simply put, there is no magic solution because stains are a part of life, but you can use the following tips and tricks to help make your socks look as good as new again.

Wash And Fold Your Socks

Many of us shower before dates or meetings, which means our socks might be wet and crumpled up when we get out of the shower. If this is the case, you’ll want to dry your socks well before wearing them again. You can use a lint roller on your socks before you put them in the dryer, but make sure you don’t hold it too tight, as that’ll cramp your toes. Since your socks are already wet when you get out of the shower, you may want to let them sit in the sun for a while to dry.

Dry Your Socks Naturally

To avoid any further damage, don’t put your socks in the dryer. Instead, use a lint-free cloth and dry your socks slowly and gently. After a few minutes, check the cloth for moisture and continue to dry your socks until no more beads of water appear on the surface. You may also want to blot the socks gently with a clean, dry dishrag.

Use Wax To Prevent Water Damage

To make your socks look as good as new again, you need to avoid water damage. This is why we recommend using wax to prevent water damage. You can find wax at home in the form of candle wax or crayon wax. While crayon wax will work better for small stains, candle wax will serve you well for larger ones. Before applying wax, make sure your socks are completely dry. Also, make sure you don’t have any allergies to the waxes used, as some individuals can have very serious reactions to them. And last but not least, make sure you wash your hands before applying the wax. The last thing you want is for your hands to get dirty and when you touch your socks, the wax will ruin your whole day.

Stuff Socks With Paper Towels

We’re big fans of paper towels in the office. They’re useful for everything from wiping down furniture to cleaning up spills on the floor. Since socks are often too big to fit into a folded paper towel, simply make a roll of paper towels and put a few balls of paper towels inside the sock. When you get to work or school, simply unroll the paper towel and stuff the sock to the top. Pull the sock down gently when you begin to tuck the paper towels into the sock, and voila, instant dry clean socks!

Use Deodorizer

We know we’re not supposed to hold it too near to the body, but our socks can get a bit stinky sometimes. To deodorize your socks, simply put a few drops of essential oils on a piece of cotton and fold it over your socks. When you get to work or school, simply pull down on the cotton to release the juices and let your socks air dry for the rest of the day.

Wash Socks In Cold Water

Did you ever wash your socks in the kitchen sink? Yup, sometimes. And it didn’t end well for the poor sock. Most of us have a lot of experience with this, which is why we always recommend using cold water to wash your socks and drying them on a rack. This will ensure that your socks are at their best before you wear them again. Plus, if you happen to drop a piece of clothing in the water, it’ll certainly make you feel like you did something wrong.

Dry Socks Using A Hair Dryer

Some of us like to keep our hair wet at all times, but others of us don’t. We all shower before dates or meetings, which means our hair can be wet and crumpled up when we get out of the shower. If this is the case, you’ll want to dry your socks well before putting them on. Simply grab a hair dryer and set it on low heat. Blow on your socks for a few minutes to get the moisture out. This is a great solution for those of us who don’t want to use waxes because they tend to damage our hair. Some people also like to use a little bit of sea salt on their socks before putting them on to prevent the hair dryer from cramping their toes.

Pair Your Socks With Your Boots

When we’re in a hurry, we often forget to wear our socks with our boots. This is a horrible feeling when you’re late for work or school because you realize your feet are freezing. To avoid this, always make sure you wear your socks with your boots when you get up in the morning. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it in the end. And if you forget to wear your socks with your boots when you get up in the morning, you’ll never know what happened because you’d never felt your feet before. Of course, this doesn’t mean you need to go overboard and force yourself to wear your socks with your boots every single day. There are always exceptions to every rule, but you’d be surprised how often this simple rule is broken.

Put Socks On Your Hand Before Applying Lotion

Did you ever see those commercials on TV where the person is rubbing a substance on their feet and the skin turns a darker color? That lotion is called Pedi-Lotion, and it’s great for preventing blisters when you’re on your feet for long periods of time. One of the ingredients in the lotion is ferulic acid. Ferulic acid is a substance which naturally occurs in the wall of plant cells. When applied directly to the skin, ferulic acid will prevent the skin from turning black and blue, which can be a side effect of regularly wearing cotton socks.

Sort Your Socks By Color

Did you ever have a pair of brown socks with white accents? If so, you know how frustrating it is to wear them. We’ve all been there, it’s enough to make you cry. Why? Because most people find it very hard to tell the difference between brown and beige, so they end up mixing the two. To avoid this, wash your socks before wearing them. If the water doesn’t exactly go inside every bit of lint, make sure you dry your socks well before wearing them. You can also use a little bit of crayon on those spots that don’t come off easily, as this will make it easier to identify which socks are which. While this won’t make your socks look perfect, it will at least make them easier to tell apart. A quick way to make your socks look great is to use a little bit of wax on the creases inside your sock (this will help the socks stay crease-free when you walk). You can find wax at home in the form of candle wax or crayon wax, and while both of these options work, we prefer to use the wax from our fingernails because it’s easier to get.

Make Sure Your Socks Are Shined

Did you ever have a pair of socks that got wet and then they kept on looking wet even after you washed them? If so, it’s most likely because the washing machine was on the fritz and the water didn’t get properly dried. If this is the case, simply shine your socks on a dryer sheet before putting them on. This will help make your socks look as good as new again because the wool will act as a vapor barrier between your skin and the socks.
