When we think about cleaning, most of us think about washing our linens, not our pillows. But giving your pillows a good wash would not only make them look and smell wonderful, it would also remove several layers of dust and grime. While there is nothing wrong with a quick spray on some linen, using a washing machine to clean your pillows would be a mistake. You see, when you wash your pillows, you are actually washing all of the layers of dust, crumbs, and residue that are stuck to them. So if you want your pillows to look and feel their best, it is important to wash them regularly (at least once per month).
Get Everything You Need In Advance
Although you might not need a washing machine to wash your linens, you certainly need something to wash them in. This, however, does not mean that you need a massive tub that can accommodate your bed. A simple toilette will suffice for regular washing of your pillows (if you use soap and water regularly). Make sure you have all of the necessary ingredients before you start washing your pillows: a clean cloth, soap, and warm water. It is also a good idea to have some towels on hand as well.
Wash Your Pillows In The Wool Bag
If you want to give your pillows the special attention they deserve, the best way to do so is by washing them in the wool bag. When you are done, make sure you turn the bag inside out and air dry the bag before laying it down. To make the washing experience as pleasant as possible, use soft, clean, non-abrasive fabrics, and avoid using any fabric that is wet or damp. If you want to add a bit more texture and volume to your pillows, consider using a jute bag or even a pillowcase.
Do Not Over Wet Your Pillows
Whether you are washing your linen or your pillow, always make sure you avoid any excess water. You should not use a sponge, nor should you soak your pillow in a bucket of water. The best way to wash your pillows is by gentle rubbing with a clean cloth. Make sure you hold the cloth with your fingers over the surface of your pillow, and then use your hand to move it in a circular motion. When you are done, you can either use a dry cloth to remove any remaining water or just let the pillow dry naturally on its own. Either way, you should not allow the cloth to become wet or damp before laying it down.
Use A Bonnet
One of the best ways to make your pillows look and feel their best is by using a bonnet. When you are done washing your linen, you can simply remove the bonnet, shake it out, and place it on top of your pillow. That way, even if you have not laid down your pillow yet, it will be waiting for you when you are ready to sleep! If you want to give your pillows a fancy finish, consider using a satin pillowcase or even a satin fleece blanket, trimmed with feathers or lace.
So, if you want your pillows to look and feel their best, wash them regularly (at least once per month), use good quality products, and carefully follow the instructions. Doing so will make all the difference!
